Warnert racing lights the candles in deadwood
Deadwood, South Dakota. January 23, 2016 – Deadwood is notorious for its close racing and high flying action and this weekend didn’t disappoint. Warnert Racing capitalized on the momentum from the last couple stops. In the Pro Lite class Elias Ishoel made his mark by taking two Pro Lite wins. In the Pro Open class John Stenberg had some highs on the weekend, riding hard to consistent finishes.
Friday in Pro Lite Elias Ishoel came out of the gates strong, battling his way to the front of both heats and taking wins to qualify first. The final saw Ishoel grab a mid-pack start and quickly make his way to the front, taking the win. Pro Open racer John Stenberg looked strong in qualifying, taking a second and a fourth. In the final Stenberg battled through the roost on the tight bullring track to take home an eighth place finish.
Saturday qualifying started off with a bit of mayhem; Elias Ishoel had a tough first round, coming off the sled and finishing 7th. The second round saw Ishoel ride relatively calm and collected, waiting until the halfway point to challenge for and take the win. In the final Ishoel got out to a top 5 start, making some exciting passes as he worked forward. Ishoel overtook the lead on lap 6 and began distancing himself from the field to take the checkers and complete a weekend sweep.
In Pro Open John Stenberg rode to hard fought finishes but was plagued by an intermittent electrical issue, making his way to the final through the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ). In the final Stenberg was once again running great before the electrical issue caused the sled to malfunction resulting in a DNF.
Some exciting news came on Sunday morning as Elias Ishoel received an invite to compete in Snocross at the Winter X-Games. Both Stenberg and Ishoel will have a shot at their first X-Games medals as the team heads to Aspen, Colorado for the Winter X-Games, January 28th.
